This annual contest, hosted by Dogs on Deployment (DoD), celebrates the inspiring stories of military, veteran and first-responder pet parents and their loyal companions. The winning dog will serve as the 2025 American Hero Pet of the Year and official Dogs on Deployment’s mascot. They’ll also receive an incredible prize package, including a special one from Oxyfresh, packed with gifts to spoil both pet and pet parent.

Contest Details
What Is It? The American Hero Pet of the Year Contest, now in its thirteenth year, is an online photo and story-based competition where military, veteran and first-responder pet parents can showcase the positive impact their pets have had in their lives.
Who Can Enter? The contest is open to active duty, reserve, or guard military members; veterans and honorably discharged service members; and first responders, including police, firefighters, and paramedics.
What Does the Winner Receive? As the American Hero Pet of the Year and official DoD mascot, the winning dog will be featured on DoD’s website, social media platforms and promotions campaigns. They’ll also attend events virtually or in person to highlight the impact of military and first-responder pets, plus win an incredible prize package, including a professional photo session, custom Dogs on Deployment gear, and additional surprises from prize donors like Oxyfresh.
How the Contest Works
Submit an Entry: Simply fill out the contest form on Dogs on Deployment’s website. You’ll need to upload a high-resolution photo of your dog, provide your military or first-responder info, and share your pet’s story. Entries may be submitted Nov. 1 – Nov. 30, 2024.
Public Voting: Public voting will take place Jan. 2 – Jan.12, 2025. Get your friends, family and community involved in the vote!
Judging Panel: After the public vote, there will be a judging panel comprised of Dogs on Deployment staff, board members, Oxyfresh and other sponsors. This panel will select the winner from the top three finalists from the public vote.
Winner Announcement: The 2025 American Hero Pet of the Year will be announced February 1, 2025.
