5 Ways to Get Rid of Canker Sores

Whether it’s brought on by stress, too much sugar, or just something that’s going around, a canker sore is never fun. Not only does it makes eating less enjoyable, it’s a constant bother throughout the day. When you’ve got a canker sore, you want relief fast. Here are some of the best ways to get rid of it…

1. Apply some aloe vera.

Aloe vera can be a great way to treat your canker sores. Its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and curative properties make it so useful, that we added it to our Pro Relief Dental Gel formula. To use aloe by itself, simply purchase an aloe plant, cut off a healthy leaf, slice it open, extract the gel, and apply it to your canker sore. You can also swish some aloe vera juice in your mouth 2-3 times a day to bring down the sore.

2. Use raw honey.

Raw honey is also very healing. This gift from Mother Nature is filled with vitamins and enzymes and does a fantastic job at fighting harmful bacteria. You can use raw honey on your canker sore, simply by taking a dollop and applying it directly to the inflamed area. You can also mix turmeric powder with the honey for an extra boost of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory power!

3. Swish with sea salt water.

This easy solution will help draw some of the liquid from the sore. Simply warm up a small glass of purified water (about a cup) and add a teaspoon of salt. Mix it up and swish the water in your mouth for 30 seconds. You might have to do this twice to use up all the salt water. Afterwards, add a pinch of salt to the canker sore. This might sting at first, but it will help the healing process move along.

4. Swish with sage essential oil (or leaves).

Sage has been shown to help canker sores quite a bit. It will help to reduce the pain and inflammation of the sore. You can simply add sage essential oil to water and swish it around or apply sage oil directly to the infected area. Instead of oil, you can also use sage leaves: boiling them, then allowing them to cool before swishing. Or simply leave some sage leaves on the spot that’s hurting for 3-5 minutes.
