Your pet’s oral health is of extreme importance that some tend to neglect. Ensuring that your beloved pet has an over-all good health is something that we should do. One of the common problems that dogs and cats suffer from is pet bad breath. No matter how cute and cuddly your pets are, having bad breath may cause a strain in your relationship. Not to mention the strain it may cause in one’s health.

All bad breath, especially pet bad breath is always associated with poor dental hygiene. Make sure that you are cleaning your pet’s teeth regularly. Get a proper toothbrush specifically designed for them. Choose a toothpaste that will suit them well. Dog and cat toothpaste often come in different forms such as sprays and gels. There are also several flavors to choose from. Dogs usually prefer chicken and beef flavors while cats like salmon and tuna. Focus on brushing the upper teeth because plaque build-up is often found there. You can give some mouthwash and dilute it with water. This may eliminate bacteria inside their mouths and help fight pet bad breath.

Having a healthy and proper diet can also do wonders for your pets. It is said dry food is a better option to feed your pets since raw and canned foods cause tartar build-up. Take note that crunchy treats can also be bad especially when bits of food get stuck in between the teeth. Foreign objects in teeth can cause a foul-smelling odor when they are not taken out immediately. It is always best to feed them a healthy mix of dry food made with real meat and lots of water to prevent dehydration. Water also rinses away food particles helping to prevent pet bad breath. You can give them digestive enzymes as supplements to make sure that their gastronomical tracts are all right.

Chew toys and raw bones are said to be of great help in preventing tartar build-up. Just make sure that the bones and chew toys are big enough for them not to swallow it. Always monitor your pet when you give them these to know if they can handle it well. Do not give your dog cooked chicken bones because it may cause damage to your pet’s intestines.

It is always best to consult a veterinarian to achieve optimum dental care for your pets, and to fight off the pet bad breath.
