Food for Thought

The number one fear reported is a mental decline as we age. No one wants to hit retirement age and not have the cognitive ability to remember! This can impact simple memory recall, such as remembering a new friend's name to skill recall, such as swinging a golf club. What if you could be proactive now to stack the cards in your favor? What if studies revealed that it could be as simple as supplementing with B vitamins to help either slow or prevent mental decline? Would you consider taking this holistic approach so you could enjoy a round of golf with your friend, Walter? A new study from Korea found that supplementing with vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid may improve cognitive (brain) function in older adults who are experiencing mild cognitive impairment already. A key finding, after this 12-week study, was the daily addition of B vitamin supplements were associated with lower levels of depression and decreased levels of homocysteine (an amino acid ... aka, building blocks for protein). This research supports the hypothesis that elevated homocysteine levels are associated with wasting of the brain. Want to avoid wasting of your brain? Read this study to see how B vitamins may play a crucial role in preserving (or even improving!) your mind! See full article here.
